The morning the Tony nominations are announced, phones start ringing off the hook for the happy few who get nods. As usual, Broadway.com is among the callers offering congratulations and getting responses. Here are the first reactions from 2010 Tony nominees. Congrats to all!
John Logan
Nominated for Best Play, Red
“Oh my God! Sorry, it’s so unprofessional to sceam, ‘Oh my God!’ [Producer] Arielle Tepper called me; I was too nervous to go online or watch TV, so Arielle just called me and told me. I sat down, and there you have it. Since I was 12 years old, I was sort of dreaming of this moment. It’s pretty overpowering. I’m not a kid, you know, I’ve been through the wars as a writer, and this means so much at this point, to have the first play written in 10 years recognized. I’m beyond thrilled and for the whole production, for all of us. I’m spending the day location scouting for my HBO pilot, so I’m going to be out in a van cruising around Long Island, which is probably the best thing to do today. But then I’m going out tonight to celebrate with friends. I think it’s going to be a fantastic night on Restaurant Row. For lack of originality, boy, am I going to paint the town red tonight!”
